Kosovo’s Military Alliance Faces Down Serbia’s Rising Threat
With Serbia arming itself to the teeth and aligning with Moscow, Kosovo, Albania, and Croatia are sending a clear message: Balkan aggression will no longer go unchallenged.
In an unprecedented move that signals a shift in the security architecture of the Western Balkans, Kosovo, Albania, and Croatia have formalised a trilateral military alliance through a newly signed declaration1. The signing ceremony, held in Albania, brought together the defence ministers of the three nations: Pirro Vengu of Albania, Ejup Maqedonci of Kosovo, and Ivan Anusic of Croatia. The agreement, the first of its kind in the region, is designed to bolster collective defence, enhance military interoperability, and counter hybrid threats.
Defence Minister Maqedonci was clear in framing the agreement as a strategic deterrent rather than a provocation.
“The aim of this cooperation is not to threaten anyone,” he stated. “It is a message to those who seek to destabilise the region: we stand together and will not allow it.”
